Since always and even more today, the science and technology sector has been the mainstay of the development of different countries. Based on the discoveries, inventions and innovations that are generated, countries manage to solve problems and become less vulnerable in an increasingly globalized and competitive world.

The so-called developed countries have a powerful science and technology sector, which allows their societies to have high standards of living. Suffice it to mention the United States, Germany, Japan and South Korea as examples. But also countries like Iran and North Korea, where scientists and technologists are their most precious resource and care, deserve to be mentioned.

In Venezuela, in these present times, the science and technology sector is covered by a cloud of uncertainty. Surely you can not tell what the future is. There is no optimism in relation to significant achievements that could be obtained in the coming years. The research centers of the different Venezuelan universities have warned about the progressive deterioration of their assets, both material and human. Many Venezuelan scientists and technologists are opting for alternative career opportunities in other countries.
