You are probably familiar with the “dog ate my homework” excuse. But have you ever heard somebody try to blame missing marijuana on mice? Here’s a story coming out of Buenos Aires per the BBC:

Investigators discovered 540kg (1,191lb) of marijuana missing from a police warehouse in Pilar, north-west of Buenos Aires.
The city's former police commissioner, Javier Specia, and fellow officers told a judge the drugs were "eaten by mice".

I’ll be honest - I don’t know how I would explain a half ton of missing marijuana. But that’s the best he could come up with? Mice ate the weed? It’s plausible for a computer to crash while completing a homework assignment. It’s plausible to get caught in unanticipated traffic. It’s plausible to “forget” important tasks or facts. It's even plausible for a dog to eat homework - heck, sometimes mine will eat its own poop. But mice eating marijuana?

Imagine pinching some weed from your buddy’s stash and trying this one on him or her. Or you could use it with your significant other:

“Honey, where are all the [insert food here] gone?”
”Oh, I think I saw some mice sniffing around them earlier. They must have eaten all of them.”

Fortunately, there were experts available to get to the bottom of the issue:

“A spokesperson for Judge Adrián González Charvay said that according to experts at Buenos Aires University, "mice wouldn't mistake the drug for food" - and even if they did, "a lot of corpses would have been found in the warehouse".

All eight police officers involved in the matter have been dismissed. Perhaps one day somebody will find a tomb of mice that died from a cannabis overdose and Mr. Specia will be exonerated. But until then, remember, when in trouble, deny, deny, deny blame it on the mice!
