A gloomy domestic goose.
Greetings!
This is a picture of the neck of a domestic bird. People told me it was a domestic goose. When I first saw it at my friend’s farm. I had no idea what it might be feeling. I walked toward it and it suddenly lifted its head, as if trying to assess the situation. I made a friendly gesture and that seemed to calm it. Slowly, it approached me.
To my surprise, it greeted me in a human‑like voice. It asked me why I had come. I told it that I was simply curious because it looked so different. It replied that all geese are the same - and in fact, all domestic animals are the same. I asked how that could be possible.
It explained that domestic animals have only one purpose in life. Birds lay eggs, animals give birth to their young. That is the only difference between them. It said their entire existence revolves around creating more of their kind and eventually becoming food for humans. “There is nothing else in our lives,” it said. “We are slaves, forced to make copies of ourselves in order to serve humans.”
I felt its sadness. It raised its head again with a gloomy expression. I took a photo of it with my phone. Then I gently lifted it and released it into a nearby pond, hoping to give it some sense of freedom. As I had gone a few meters away, a falcon suddenly appeared and in a swift moment, carried the goose away in its claws. I could see the neck of the bird that was not raising anymore.
Thanks!
