The Day an Ordinary Walk Became an Unforgettable Memory
What I See |
|---|
The picture shows a large unique sculpture of blue and white color standing on a grass lawn surrounded by trees. The curvy and sharp shapes of the sculpture make the viewer believe that it is actually some sort of gigantic architectural work rather than just a monument.
The woman with a backpack is taking a picture of the sculpture using her mobile phone in the foreground of the picture. An old man looking at the sculpture and a child walking under the construction can be seen next to the sculpture. The background of the picture contains trees, a white tent, and a part of the building.
What I Feel |
|---|
The atmosphere of the picture is filled with the feeling of curiosity, calmness, and even discovering something new for oneself. Each person experiences his or her own impression of the sculpture: the woman who is excited to take a picture of it, the old man quietly watching it, and a child getting familiar with it.
There is a good contrast of the monumental and intimidating construction of a modern world and a green park surrounding it.
The Story — The Photograph They Almost Didn't Take |
|---|
By the time Daniel and his family reached the park that day, no one anticipated anything out of the ordinary to happen.
It was simply a trip to the outdoors suggested by Daniel’s mother, who wanted some fresh air after spending the better part of the morning in the confines of their home. His father reluctantly agreed and Daniel, being a twelve-year-old kid, grumbled about how he rather stayed at home playing games on his phone.
But then they noticed the statue.
It appeared from nowhere, standing in the middle of the green field like something taken from another dimension. It was huge, painted blue and white, with strange curves which appeared as if twisting into the clouds. Daniel stopped.
“What is that?” he asked.
His father only shrugged. “Art, I suppose.”
Daniel was not convinced.
He walked underneath it and stared upwards at the enormous beams towering above him. For the first time that day, he forgot about his phone. He wondered who had erected the structure, why they had done so and what message they were trying to pass across to people who stood under it.
But while his thoughts were occupied, his mother had decided to snap a photo.
“Stand there,” she told his father.
His father only sighed. “Why?”
“Because I’m taking a picture.”
He stood by the statue while his mother searched for the proper angle for the photograph. As she raised her phone to take the picture, she noticed a woman nearby doing exactly the same thing. She had a backpack with her and carefully arranged herself so that the gigantic structure was in the background of the picture.
None of them spoke for a while.
They were strangers, yet they were all looking at the same object.
Suddenly, Daniel understood something.
People do not always travel to places with the intention of seeing specific sights. At times, they just travel and let the place surprise them.
His mother finally took the picture.
“Got it,” she said.
Daniel looked at the picture on her phone.
“Send that to me.”
His father laughed. “I thought you wanted to return home.”
“I did,” Daniel retorted. “Before we found this.”
Years would pass and Daniel would forget many things about that day. He would not even remember what they had eaten and what discussions they had on the way back home.
But he would never forget the strange blue and white statue.
He would remember that sometimes it is exactly that ordinary moments turn into something memorable when you stop, take a look and notice something you could otherwise ignore.
