Eggs and Symbols

We think we invented symbols. Maybe symbols invented us. Maybe religion didn't give us meaning, it just named something that was already there, the same way every culture looked at an egg and saw life inside it before they cracked it open. And the egg itself is a misdirection. In mammals, who says whether the baby came first or the man and woman. The question was never really about the egg.

Before there was atheism, there was religion. Before there was religion, there was the egg. What came first and who decided what it meant?

With so many religions, some of them have to be rubbish... no. I think about the mind that started it all. The mind that saw above everything else. He knew that if he bragged about it, people would rebuke him. A being of such intelligence that he got so many involved and most of all preached things that are still relevant in modern times.

He saw the organization of human beings and he saw them scrambling for purpose. The more I think about it the more I can't understand him. Did he stumble onto something that made him the way he is? Religions started in different places and yet it was possible for him to learn about the others. But to have the charisma and the confidence to unite so many, what was he really? Someone who understood humans better than they understood themselves and saw them as followers waiting to happen.

This matters because most of the morality that persists throughout humanity is religion based. Helping your neighbours, helping those in need. Religion adds something we do not know of, not the common things like purpose or harmony but something we would not have had without it.

I don't know what I believe. But I know that every time a symbol shows up in every corner of the world without anyone coordinating it, something is being said about us that we still haven't fully understood. Like the eggs, or was it the eggs all along that started it all. Painted our minds with these ideologies... damn these eggs.
