The Ears of the Wall
We all have heard this quote "Wall has ears too!". In most cases has heard it while talking about something secret. The image of this contest immediately reminded me of this when I saw it.

The image is taken from this contest.
The image shows two persons who seem to be very curious in hearing what's been talking behind the wall. So, they put their ears on the wall to eavesdrop what is being discussed. They also seem to be very careful so that they don't reveal their presence to the person behind the wall. I feel the image is very interesting since the secret of them hearing the secret conversation is no more secret to me!
I am a big fan of detective story. So, let me be the writer of a detective story today:
8:00 AM.
Mitul Roy, a famous Bengali detective was having the first cup of tea in the day. When the telephone rang. He picked up the phone and just said,
"Yes!"
"Dipankar Bose?, well know business man?!"
"Okay I am reaching within 45 minutes." and hung up the phone.
He finished the tea, got ready and booked a cab. The house of Mr. Dipankar is nearly 7 km away from his house. When he reached he interrogate the lady and maids of the house. Then he sat with Mr Dipankar.
He came to know that Mr. Dipankar had a family heirloom which is a diamond cost 10 crore BDT and this piece is missing! It stored it in an iron safe in his study. No maid is allowed to visit the room and is locked when he's not there. He last saw the diamond two days ago. He checked the windows and door and went to sleep. This morning he had to keep some important documents in the safe so opened it. And then what he saw inside gave him a heart attack! The red velvet box where the diamond was placed is missing!
"Mr Roy, the keys of the safe was under my pillow. The safe is not even broken. I am clueless how the diamond is missing.", Dipankar bose said in a trembling voice.
Mitul Roy was observing the lock with a magnifying glass. He found no traces of breaking the lock. The door and window was tightly locked too. There was a window in the same wall the safe is placed. He looked outside the window. The lane is clearly seen through the window. Suddenly he noticed two strange bronze sculpture placed just with the study room wall. One looked like eavesdropping and another was like sending some signals to the third person. But no third sculpture was there!
Something hit Mitul's mind. He immediately ran out from the room towards the statues. He took some time and observed them carefully. He found a small hole inside the first statue's ear and fell the torch light inside it. Same did with the second one.
He went back to the study room again and met with Mr. Dipankar. He praised of the architecture of those statues and was very much curious to meet with the architecture. He asked Mr Dipankar to invite him to his house so that he can meet with him and have this kind of artistic statues at his home too. Though Mr Dipankar was irritated since he was not solving the case instead asking this sort of request, he agreed to invite the architecture Mr. Sinha over dinner. But he also mentioned that Mr Sinha is a very busy person and he has visited him yesterday. So, he's unsure if he'll accept the invitation. Mitul Roy told him to make him come because he already has become a big fan of these sculptures and want to put the same in his backyard in the near future.
9:00 PM.
At dinner Mitul Roy met with Mr. Sinha and highly praised his works. But Mr Dipankar was irritated since Mitul Roy was quite indifferent to his case.
After dinner, they three sat for a chat and Mr. Dipankar ordered for tea. Suddenly Mitul Roy put two small electric devices on the table and looked at Mr Sinha's face. Did it turned out to be a bit pale?!
"Mr. Sinha, your sculpture are not only for art, it has some more meaning to you; and now to me too.", said Mitul Roy.
"Yes, their artistic value is not cheap.", Mr. Sinha said it quietly.
"I am saying something not about art, Mr. Sinha. The are extraordinary because those status has some power to execute things." said Mitul.
"Oh really!?", Mr. Sinha tried to stay calm.
"Yes. You put a device that is actually a sound amplifier in the first statue and put a signal decoder in the second one. When Mr. Dipankar dialed the combination lock, your sound amplifier detected all of the sound signals. Usually there is a bit larger sound when the dialer goes to the correct digit. The first statue takes this very signal and send it to the second statue. This one decodes the signal to a digit and send it to you Mr. Sinha through a transmitter. And thus you get the combination lock password."
"What silly are you saying?! I am an architecture not an electrician", shouted Mr. Sinha.
"Please be quiet.", Said Mitul Roy. "Mr. Dipankar, if I am not wrong, you met with Mr. Sinha yesterday in your study and maybe you left the room for a while?".
"Yes. Right. I went to the upstairs for a present I prepared for Mr. Sinha. It was an appreciation for those beautiful sculpture."
"And Mr. Sinha took the proper advantage of your absence. He looked at the hall and since no one was there, he went to the iron safe and used the password he got from the statues to open up the safe. Before you came back, he grabbed the diamond along with the red velvet box."
"But I didn't have the keys. You are overthinking everything.", said Mr. Sinha furiously.
"Let me tell you. This safe only requires either password or keys to open up.", Mr. Dipankar said. He felt cheated and was disappointed since was cheated by one of his old friends.
Mr. Sinha was trying to show some lame logic, but was stopped with a phone call. Mitul's phone was ringing.
"Mr. Dipankar, your diamond is now in a safe hand. The police has found it from Mr. Sinha's workshop. And Mr. Sinha, police are now very near of this neighborhood.", said Mitul.
Mr. Sinha kept his head down and a mix of expressions was playing on his face. At the end, he looked ashamed and sad.
"Mr. Sinha, you have insulted the art. Please accept the punishment so that we can have the least respect to you.", Mitul said and slowly finished the smokey tea that just arrived.
So, this is it! I don't usually write story let alone detective story. But trying to create a suspense though I know it's like kid detective story. However, please leave a comment how you feel about it.
Thank you,
@kitki
I like detectives as well but not all of them, mainly the English ones which make one think and there's a calm way of investing.
I wonder if people do such things like you described. I can imagine they will.
It's as an interesting read.
Thank you so much. I also like the English ones...Sherlock Holmes, Erkul Puaro are al time favorites. Besides I like other writers too like Dan Brown though they may not be fully Detective story, but has something in them...Also psychological thrillers are in my favorite list. Not only novels but also some great movies and series have my interest.

Read Stieg Larsson? I like the psychological thrillers as well and the films. I have the complete series (film fanatic LOL runs in the family). Always good to trigger the brain.
