Being the third daughter has been an enriching experience; without a doubt, it distances you from the compulsive materialism that many people in society suffer from.

As the youngest sister, you almost always crave or pay more attention to the belongings of your older siblings. Who would want a brand-new toy if they can get their siblings’ with just a little tantrum!

I’m laughing as I write this, because surely those who have been older siblings won’t share the same opinion. But seriously, when you’re the youngest child, you almost never get anything brand-new. And you don’t really mind.

I think that routine of inheriting my siblings’ things has made me value function over aesthetics, or that feeling of exclusivity that comes from being the first owner of something.

Of course, I must thank my parents, because even though they could have given me everything recycled from my siblings, they also gave me new gifts. I won’t deny it—it feels good to receive something you can unwrap and enjoy as brand-new from time to time.

Ser la tercera hija ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora, sin dudas te aleja del materialismo compulsivo que sufren muchas personas en la sociedad.

Y es que al ser la hermana menor, casi siempre te apetece o llama más la atención las pertenencias de tus hermanos mayores. Quién querría un juguete nuevo a estrenar si puede conseguir el de sus hermanos con un poco de berrinche!

Estoy riendo mientras escribo esto, porque sin dudas quienes han sido hermanos mayores no tendrán la misma opinión. Pero bueno, hablando en serio, cuando eres el último hijo, casi nunca tienes nada nuevo de paquete. Y no te parece mal.

Creo que esa rutina de heredar las cosas de mis hermanos, me ha hecho darle más valor a la función que a lo estético, o a ese sentimiento de exclusividad que te da ser el primer dueño de algo.

Por supuesto, debo agradecer a mis padres que a pesar de haberme podido dar todo reciclado de mis hermanos, también me dieron regalos nuevos, no lo voy a negar, se siente bien recibir algo que podamos estrenar de vez en cuando.
