At first I thought you were looking out for us
The caring type
Trying to prepare
The Hunger Winter is no pleasant prospect
You saved and scrimped.

Then I saw that you were hoarding
Becoming a miserly, stingy saver
Your eyes saw everything
The tiniest object of value
Slipped into your pocket.

You smiled with delight.
Everything you owned, you carried around
There was no light-hearted, carefree moment
In which you gazed upon the world.

The realisation was a slap in the face.
Cluttering
The fear of loss
Materialism
No flexibility.

You are increasingly weighed down by the burden
The smile on your face has long since vanished

I look up.
For a brief moment, I think of the little man on the moon.
A man severely punished
Banished for gathering firewood on the Sabbath.
