A ridge-and-drainage complex is a special combination of vegetation that develops under the conditions of an uneven surface of a sphagnum, or riding, swamp. The formation of the ridge-drainage complex is the result of the natural self-development of the sphagnum swamp. As a result of the uneven growth of sphagnum, separate local elevations are formed on the surface of the deposit: hummocks, ridges. In places where the peat mass breaks, wells (depressions) are formed or windows of open water are formed. Ridges and depressions have an elongated shape and are located in a direction approximately perpendicular to the direction of surface water runoff. This drain is invisible to the eye due to the very slight slope of the surface. Where the slope is not pronounced (in the center of the marsh massif), the ridge-mochazhinny complex is replaced by the ridge-mochazhinny-ozerkovy complex.

Гря́дово-мочажи́нный ко́мплекс — это особое сочетание растительности, которая складывается в условиях неровной поверхности сфагнового, или верхового, болота. Формирование грядово-мочажинного комплекса есть результат закономерного саморазвития сфагнового болота. В результате неравномерного роста сфагнума на поверхности залежи образуются отдельные локальные повышения: кочки, гряды. В местах разрыва торфяной массы формируются мочажины (понижения) или образуются окна открытой воды. Гряды и мочажины имеют вытянутую форму и располагаются в направлении примерно перпендикулярном направлению стока поверхностных вод. Сток этот незаметен глазу из-за очень слабого уклона поверхности. Там, где уклон не выражен (в центре болотного массива), грядово-мочажинный комплекс сменяется грядово-мочажинно-озерковым.

So, the first photo shows just the ridge-drainage-lake part of the swamp. This swamp has its own name - Harvazi. One of the translations of this name from Finnish (Karelian) languages is hairy or maybe bristly.

Quite possibly, just take a look at this "stubble" :)

Так вот, на первом фото как раз и показана грядово-мочажинно-озерковая часть болота. Это болото имеет своё название - Харвази. Один из вариантов перевода этого названия с финского (карельского) языков - волосистое или может быть щетинистое.

Вполне возможно, просто взгляните на эту "щетину" :)

But let's start in order.
This is my fourth trip to these places and I imagined where I was going and going.
The forest road along the clearing (and in fact along one of the old clearings) led almost to the swamp itself.

The area of the swamp is 733 hectares, the edges are overgrown with young pine trees.
My task was to get to the central part of the swamp.

On the way, we crossed the Malaya Kharvazi River.

Но начнём по порядку.
Это уже мой четвёртый поход в эти места и я представлял куда еду и иду.
Лесная дорога вдоль просеки (а фактически по одной из старых просек) вела почти к самому болоту.

Площадь болота составляет 733 га, кромки поросшие молодой сосной.
Моей задачей было добраться до центральной части болота.

По пути мы пересекли реку Малая Харвази.

The sound of falling water could be heard upstream.
My next hike will start from this place upstream.
I assume there's a large beaver dam there, let's see.

In the meantime, we are making our way through the wild forest of the middle taiga.

Выше по течению был слышен шум падающей воды.
Мой следующий поход начнётся с этого места вверх по течению.
Я предполагаю там крупную плотину бобров, посмотрим.

А пока пробираемся через дикий лес средней тайги.

When we reached the planned point, we left our bikes and set off in the direction of the swamp itself. These are the pines, which gradually became lower and rarer.

Дойдя до плановой точки мы оставили велосипеды и отправились в направлении самого болота. Вот эти сосны, которые постепенно становились ниже и реже.

I love the smell of rosemary, there's a lot of it here.
But they say it's not good for your well-being.

Я люблю запах багульника, его здесь много.
Но говорят, что это не очень хорошо для самочувствия.

Over there, beyond the last strip of pines, you can see the swamp itself.

Вот там, за последней полоской сосен виднеется само болото.

A few more dozen steps and we are at the goal.

Ещё несколько десятков шагов и мы у цели.

I expected to see more space, but no.
There were pine groves everywhere, they really stretched in ridges and divided the common space into small mosaics. Maybe we haven't reached the full scope, or maybe it's just not here. I'll definitely go further next time.

You need to walk carefully, the holes (water near the surface) are sometimes camouflaged and you can fall through... above the knees, much higher))

Я ожидал увидеть больший простор, но нет.
Везде были перелески сосен, они действительно тянулись грядами и разбивали общее пространство на мелкую мозаику. Возможно мы так и не дошли до полного простора, а может быть его здесь просто нет. В следующий раз обязательно пройду дальше.

Идти надо осторожно, мочажины (вода у самой поверхности) порой замаскированы и можно провалиться ... выше колен, гораздо выше))

Where the stubble is a bump, you can safely step on it.
And next to it, like moss, here you can get boots full of water (at best).

Вот там, где щетина - это кочка, на неё можно спокойно наступать.
А рядом как бы мох, вот тут можно набрать полные сапоги воды (в лучшем случае).

But it's better not to go to such places at all.
And there are many such pools here.

А вот в такие места лучше вообще не соваться.
И таких мочажин здесь много.

Some turn into lakes.

Некоторые переходят в озерца.

But the most amazing thing was the picturesque lake.
That's exactly what I didn't expect to see here.

Но самым удивительным оказалось живописное озеро.
Вот чего я точно не ожидал здесь увидеть

I think there are even fish here, most likely perch, we'll have to check next time. After all, no one fished here for sure. For the whole time, we didn't even see a trace of a person nearby.

But there are a lot of moose tracks on the edge of the swamp and transitional trails in the middle.

Думаю, что здесь даже водится рыба, скорее всего окуни, надо будет в следующий раз проверить. Ведь тут точно никто рыбу не ловил. За всё время мы не видели даже следа человека рядом.

Зато много следов лосей на краю болота и переходные тропы в середине.

And this is the moose's bed, they slept here (there is a second one nearby)

А это лёжка лося, здесь они спали (рядом есть вторая)

The forests around the swamp are "teeming" with wild boars, there is a lot of pitted soil, even roadsides.
And it goes without saying that there are wild game here, I saw grouse myself, but I didn't have time to take pictures.

Леса вокруг болота "кишат" кабанами, много изрыто почвы, даже обочины дорог.
И само собой разумеется здесь водится боровая дичь, рябчиков видел сам, но заснять не успел.

It's beautiful and interesting here.
