The Chaos of Wave 18

I have just turned off the switch after spending a very active gaming time in a long time. I had survived up to Wave 18 in Space Invasion and I must tell you that my hands are still trembling due to the adrenaline. Such an achievement is as much a true test of my reflexes and how I manage to keep sane as the digital world literally falls down on my head.

At first the game was manageable, more or less rhythmic. I discovered a steady pace, which snatching out the outer aliens decelerated their fall. But at Wave 10, it could not be denied that the speed was increasing. The game evolved into a neon laser and fast-moving massacre by Wave 18.

I observed that the thump-thump of the alien march had become feverish. Now I could not afford one unsuccessful shot. Since I was able to shoot only one laser at a time, I needed to be very accurate. In case I had missed a shot on Wave 18, the aliens had gone so far down the screen in that second that it felt as though my heart had dropped. I was forced to remain on the spot, looking forward to their wayward changes of course.

My Defensive Strategy

I was hugely dependent on remaining bunkers, but by Wave 18, they had been reduced to pixelated dust. I took the small pieces of covering to attract the alien fire and ran out at the last free second to get a kill.

The Edge Technique: I concentrated on clearing the vertical columns on the far right and left sides. This allowed me to react more before the fleet reached the edge and dropped nearer to my ship.
The UFO Hunt: despite the commotion of Wave 18, I listened to the hum of the Mystery Ship as it went high-pitched. I was able to cut it twice and it brought me the points that I needed to keep my momentum going.

Being able to survive 18 waves of an increasing speeding alien invasion is a big personal accomplishment to me. It is a challenge that demands total concentration. I am so proud of this run and I am already contemplating the way I can polish my movement to eventually get into Wave 20.

Thanks for reading my post.
