Ready to continue exploring and capturing the beauty of our planet's wildlife? We've reached Week 8 of our Eco-Lens Challenge and we're celebrating with a new opportunity to observe, research, and share the natural wonders that surround us.
What is the “Eco Lens Challenge” about?
For those joining or just to reminisce, our Eco-Lens Challenge is a weekly nature photography and observation contest, which we compile into a participatory map, the Eco-Lens Map.
Each week, we focus on a specific theme (insects, plants, birds, etc.). The goal is for you, with your cameras and your curiosity, to go out and find and photograph these treasures of nature.
We're not just looking for pretty pictures. We want you to tell us the story behind each image: what you saw, where you saw it, what you researched, and what you learned. It's an invitation to connect with nature in a deeper way and to share that knowledge with everyone, including those who contribute to the growth of the Eco-Lens Map.
Week 8 Topic: INSECTS and OTHER INVERTEBRATES! 🕷️🦋🐛
This week we're diving back into the fascinating world of INSECTS and other INVERTEBRATES. From the tiny ant to the elegant butterfly, including spiders, millipedes, and slugs—anything goes! Go out to your garden, a nearby park, or a mountain, and look for those little heroes who often go unnoticed.
How to Participate: It's Easy!
We want your posts to be clear and exciting for everyone. Follow these steps!
- ✅ Weekly Theme: This week, find, research, and photograph INSECTS or OTHER INVERTEBRATES.
- ✅ One Subject per Post: Each post must feature only one type of insect or invertebrate.
- ✅ Quality Photos (Maximum 7): Upload up to 7 high-quality photos. We need:
- 📸 A photo of the subject in its natural environment (its habitat).
- 📸 A full-body photo (medium shot) to see the whole subject.
- 📸 A close-up photo (macro) to see the details.
- 📸 A close-up photo (macro) to see the details.
- ✅ Detailed Description (Minimum 300 words): Tell us the story of your find. Your text must include:
- Names: The creature's full common and scientific name.
- Its Life: Details about where it lives (its habitat) and how it behaves.
- Your Experience: A couple of paragraphs about what it was like photographing it.
- Sources: Research its zoological classification or taxon. Don't forget to specify references. Tell us where you got your information.
- ✅ Map Coordinates: Important! Make sure your photos have GPS location enabled. You must include the exact coordinates of where you made the observation in your post. This adds incredible value to your discovery.
- ✅ Optional: iNaturalist.org: If you already use iNaturalist.org, share your observation there too! (Not mandatory, but it's a great way to contribute to science.)
Clear Rules for Everyone:
- 📝 Post Title: Use this format: "Name of Insect/Invertebrate + Location of Observation" (Example: Monarch Butterfly, Venezuela).
- 📝 Where to Post: Your entry must be in the Camping Club Steemit (CCS) Community.
- 📝 Originality: Your photos and text must be 100% yours! No plagiarism or AI-generated content.
- 📝 Hashtags: Always use these tags: #eco-lens #ccs #nature #photography #insects #zoology #country #steemexclusive`.
