House centipede | Venezuela.

[ciempies domestico]

Greetings, CCS friends! Today I'm sharing an observation of a dead animal. I found it in my bathroom; I think it fell from the ceiling. When I saw it, ants were already surrounding it, ready to carry it back to their nest. But I decided to pick it up and take some photos with the corpse of our little friend.

Its appearance may seem fierce and even dangerous, but centipedes are among humans' best allies in the home. They hunt other insects and pests that can be harmful to humans.

According to Google Lens and Wikipedia, its scientific name is: and its length does not exceed 4-5 centimeters. Of course, the number, size, and arrangement of its legs make it look enormous when we are lucky enough to come across one alive, as they are very fast and elusive animals. In the photo carousel, you can see details of its head, back, and ventral area.

I think it's one of the most beautiful insects; its golden-yellow color gives it a magical aura. And of course, you have to be careful, as they have a pair of strong mandibles with which they can bite. Although their bite is rare and generally only causes mild irritation in humans, it's not a serious danger.

I found this one dead early this morning when I went to the bathroom. I don't know the cause of death. You can see how fragile and brittle its legs become.

Gracias
