The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Did the movie make you more curious about the real-life story?

Yes it is obvious that the movie made me deeply curious about the real Chris Gardener. The movie showed only a part of his struggle, homelessness, fatherhood, and his fight for the job. It was enough to make me wonder how he managed to stay hopeful besides everything falling apart around him.

I felt the urge to search his interviews and his biography to know how he built a successful career. Because the movie left a long lasting and very interesting impact about him. The movie opened my eyes to the incredible strength and determination behind the real person in the world.

Which scene or moment felt the most powerful or emotional?

Indeed each moment and scene in the movie is very interesting as well as powerful and emotional.

The most appealing and powerful moment for me was the scene where Chris and his little son spend a night in the public bathroom. It was because they did have any other places available to spend that night.

Chris tries to keep his son calm. He pretended that the machines in the restroom are part of a time machine. But the main problem is that while going through the time machines you can clearly see the pain in his eyes. That moment captures the perfect balance between a fathers love and his helpless reality.

Another emotional moment is the final scene of the movie. In the final scene Chris finally gets the job. The silent tears of his joy felt like a reward for every hardship through which passed.

What lessons did you learn from the true story portrayed?

The movie has several unique lessons. I learnt the following powerful lessons:

  • Never give up even when life feels impossible.
  • Hard work does not give instant results but persistence eventually pays off.
  • Being a parent means sacrificing everything to give your child a better future.
  • Opportunities come to those who prepare even in the darkest times.
  • Life may break you but hope is a powerful survival tool.

The biggest lesson of the movie is that success is not about being lucky. It is about being consistent. It is about being disciplined. It is about being not refusing to quit.

How did it make you feel about the people or time period it represented?

The film made me feel a deep respect for the people who De living through the financial struggles. This deep respect arises especially for those single parents who are trying to raise their children without stability.

The film showed the harshness of economy and difficulty survival in that era. It also shows that how the society often overlooks the homeless and the poor people.

It also reflected the unfairness of the world. Some people have to work ten times harder than others just to get basic opportunities. Yet at the same time it highlighted the spirit of the era. If you worked with honesty and determination you could still climb your way up.

The story made me appreciate the strength of the real people like Chris Gardner who turned pain into purpose and calmness.

That was undoubtedly an excellent film. And it gained even more value by starring both father and son.
