🏞️ About the beauty and crisis of the river of our lives

in CCSlast month

Each region of our country has its own story, and a large part of that story is its river. Our river here is no exception – it is not just a stream, it is an integral part of our familiar environment, the pulse of our lives.

When I was a child, I used to see this river in a different light. Back then, both banks of the river were green and soft. When the water gurgled during the monsoon, the sound of it gave peace to my mind. I would see fishermen fishing, children playing in the mud on the banks, and sailing boats floating in the distance. Our crops grew in the river water, our household chores were done, and on hot afternoons, the river breeze was like a heavenly comfort to us. We have so many memories associated with this river – so many funny stories, so many afternoon chats.

But, with time, that picture has somehow changed. Now, when I look at the river, my mind feels a little sad. Now, during the monsoon season, the river water level decreases a lot, and in some places, only sand banks are left standing. Those sand banks no longer have the life they used to have. The river is now covered with sedge in many places, as if it has been covered with a green sheet. As a result, the natural breathing of the river is stopped. Waste and garbage from the city are polluting the river water even more.
This change is not only destroying the beauty of the river, it is also making our lives difficult. Due to the decrease in water, agricultural work is being disrupted, and due to pollution, people and animals dependent on water are facing problems. The fish are decreasing, and the sound of the river's previous murmur has also disappeared somewhere.

But will we sit idly by? Never. There is still time to save this river. If we all become a little more aware, keep the river banks clean, and especially if those who use this river do not pollute—then the river may regain its lost glory. Along with the government's initiatives, it is very important for ordinary people like us to come forward. This river is our wealth, our heritage.

Let us all make this pledge together - we will make our river healthy again. Because, if the river survives, we will survive, our future will survive. It is our responsibility to leave a clean and flowing river for our future generations. May the story of this river end with a happy ending.
