Plexippus paykulli spider- Bangladesh
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Everyone
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah EveryoneHello friends,
I hope you are all well. God has kept me well and healthy by His grace.
I am here today to participate in this Eco Lens Map competition again as I always do. The insect I have brought you today is the Plexippus paykulli spider.
Their eyesight is very sharp and they approach their target prey stealthily, jumping when they get close enough. They are very agile and can cover many times their body length in one jump.
Plexippus paykulli quickly points itself towards the prey, then slowly curls up and jumps up to 50 millimeters (2.0 inches) to the target. It has been found that this species follows mobile prey like flies differently than stationary prey like maggots. In a camouflaged background, the spider approaches more stealthily and jumps from a short distance to attack a mobile prey item. This made the spider more likely to have a successful outcome without prior detection.
Plexippus peculi is cosmopolitan in distribution. It is native to tropical regions of Africa and Asia.
Plexippus peculi has a strong, high carapace. It is covered in short gray hairs and sometimes has dramatic red accents in males. Females have a body length of 9 to 12 mm (0.35 to 0.47 in), while males have a body length of 9 to 11 mm (0.35 to 0.43 in).
Plexippus peculi is commonly found living on and around man-made structures, especially buildings, although it has also been recorded from citrus groves and cotton fields. The female spider builds an egg sac about 3 cm (1.2 in) in diameter in a hidden location under the floor, in cracks, or under the roof. A lens-shaped silk case is made in which 35 to 60 eggs are deposited. The female spider guards them until the young spiders hatch and disperse after about three to four weeks.
There is an open space next to our house. I found it in that open space. Now, it is winter in our country. There was a beautiful sunny day outside in an open space and some of us were sitting there doing whatever we were doing. Suddenly, this spider came to my attention. The spider was jumping so fast that I had a lot of trouble photographing it. It was never still and was moving from one position to another in a few seconds. Due to which I was unable to photograph it from the direction I wanted. I liked the few I got.
There are numerous species of spiders from which I would love to be able to take photographs. This spider has black and striped spots and its legs are a reddish color. It probably lost its two legs somehow and now it was living its life with its six legs.

Fantastic photos. You managed to get it to stay still; as you say, it's a very active and jumping spider.
🎉 Congratulations, @rumanaafroz!
