A Hidden Hydrangea Haven in Japan
On one side of Momijigatani Cape (Tōgenkyō-misaki) in Miyazaki Prefecture, hydrangeas burst into bloom, painting early summer with vivid color. Renowned as a hydrangea paradise, the cape draws visitors year after year, boasting nearly two million hydrangea bushes in shades of blue, white, pink, and more—one of the largest displays in Japan. This breathtaking spectacle of color is a fleeting wonder, seen only during this season.
From late May to late June, the Hydrangea Festival is held, offering a rare chance to witness this floral grandeur in full bloom.
An observation deck overlooks the rolling fields of hydrangeas, where the vibrant blossoms below contrast beautifully with the deep blue of the Hyuga Sea beyond. By day, the flowers glow with radiant color; at sunrise and beneath a starlit sky, they take on an air of quiet mystery. Surrounded by hydrangeas in all directions, the view stretches endlessly—pure, soothing beauty for the soul.
