I once thought Jingdezhen was beautiful enough—until I set foot in Shangrao.

Jiangxi has always been understated. In recent years, the sudden rise of Jingdezhen has revealed to many the quiet beauty of this province. Yet compared with the much-hyped Jingdezhen, I find myself more drawn to Shangrao. Its many scenic areas are distinctive and richly layered, well worth spending several unhurried days to truly savor.

Wangxian Valley
A landscape that feels lifted straight from a fantasy martial-arts game: pavilions perched atop sheer cliffs. When night falls and the lights come on, it feels as though one has stepped back into an immortal realm. Staying overnight is highly recommended—the moments from dusk onward are the most enchanting of the day.

Gexian Village
A mist-shrouded, otherworldly hamlet. Boats drift across the lake, trailed by shimmering koi. Dressed in traditional attire, one can’t help but feel as if time itself has folded, carrying you into another era.

Huangling
Named by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful villages in China, Huangling retains a vivid sense of everyday life. Every corner is a picture, every season its own charm—though autumn is at its finest, especially at dusk.

Wunüzhou
Famed for its breathtaking fireworks displays, it evokes the grandeur of a dreamlike festival. Boats glide past cascading waterfalls as fireworks illuminate the night, creating a spectacle that is both dramatic and unforgettable.
