Villages of Guizhou
Zhaoxing Dong Village
The largest Dong village in China, renowned for its five exquisitely crafted drum towers, each with a distinct form and character. With direct high-speed rail access, travel here is remarkably convenient.
Xijiang Miao Village
The world’s largest Miao ethnic settlement. When night falls and the lights come on, it resembles a scene from Spirited Away. Though highly commercialized, its sheer scale and spectacle are truly unmatched.
Dali Dong Village
A tranquil, unpretentious village free from noise and crowds, rich in everyday warmth and deeply attuned to nature—a place where time seems to slow to a gentle rhythm.
Basha Miao Village
A secluded and little-known enclave in southwestern Guizhou, notable as the only legally gun-owning tribe remaining in China, preserving ancient customs largely untouched by the modern world.
Langde Miao Village
Located near Xijiang, this traditional Miao village remains largely uncommercialized. It is also a place once touched by the Olympic torch, adding a unique historical resonance.
Benzhai Tunbao
Built with stone walls and tiled roofs, clinging to the mountainside, this is a fully preserved stone fortress town with over 600 years of history, one of the eight Yunfeng Tunbao villages.
Gaodang Ancient Village
A millennium-old Buyi village distinguished by its stone-and-wood architecture. Two kilometers away, the ancient Suoluo River bridge serves as a striking finishing touch to the landscape.
Wanfenglin, Xingyi
A breathtaking panorama of karst peaks interwoven with Buyi villages, forming a living ink-wash painting of mountains and fields.
Yubulu
A 600-year-old Buyi village hidden within a sinkhole, secluded and atmospheric, as if sheltered from the outside world.
Zaidang Dong Village
An ancient settlement built along a stream, centered around its drum tower. Performances are often held on the village stage, and the Dong Grand Song has been passed down here for generations.
Zengchong Dong Village
Home to the oldest drum tower in southeastern Guizhou, built in 1672, which still stands as the spiritual heart of the village today.
Huanggang Dong Village
A mountain utopia deep in southeastern Guizhou, with few traces of modern life. This original Dong village, with an 800-year history, boasts remarkably beautiful traditional architecture.
Sanbao Dong Village, Rongjiang
Known as the “Number One Dong Village under Heaven,” this thousand-household settlement is home to a Guinness World Record–holding drum tower and a riverside grove of ancient banyan trees.
