"Were You a Slave When God Called You?" (Part 2)

We’ve been brainwashed. At least most of us. To get a job.

Most of us have been brainwashed that the best way to get income is through a job. But, as we learned from the previous post, the Apostle Paul said, “...but if you can be free, do so.” Being free means not having a job, but being an entrepreneur, a solopreneur, or some way that you can be what some call “self-employed”.

But what does the word “job” mean? Where did it come from? Did you ever think about it? One day, the Holy Spirit prompted me to think about it and look into it, so I did. Wow! The word “job” comes from the word “gob”, like a mass of something so indeterminable, so undistinguishable. Some believe that the word evolved from the Middle Ages, where there were “cottage industries”, where each person did their little part to contribute to the whole (or mass); probably the beginning of assembly-line manufacturing and the industrial revolution, although some deny it.

I remember having jobs where I was just a cog in the wheel, where I never saw the results, and felt unappreciated. So a job sounds like just this gob, this “mass” that people do to earn income, and often there are dire consequences, as I mentioned previously, like negative health and/or financial issues.

“But I have a career, and it’s my vocation.”

“Do you? Is it? Stay tuned for Part 3.

Steem on!

So many of these "careers" and "jobs" do nothing, mean nothing. Why do we need a mattress salesman? What is the point of a barrista?

Yes @ravencorinn, I totally agree! Thanks for commenting.
