Sharing the Love at Endeavor House Ministries

The Transitional Housing Program that I work at is Called Endeavor House Ministries and it is a 16 bed facility for men with addiction and compulsion issues. We are loosely affiliated with a Church called Calvary Christian Fellowship (Among others)

The two years that I have been here there has been a guy that has kinda attached himself to our house, not as a resident, but more of a mascot. He is what I guess some would call "Slow" for lack of a better term. He is in a adult foster care home and we pick him up several times a week for functions that we attend.

A couple of weeks ago he was over here and asked me if he could throw a birthday party here on December 14th. I explained to him that I couldn't give him permission to invite people here, and he said "No, I want you to throw me a party!" I asked him "So let me get this right, you are asking me permission for us to throw you a party?" and he enthusiastically said "Yes!"

He is super cool...

We decided that we were going to throw him a surprise birthday party and took up a collection. Between the 16 guys here we came up with a little over $100. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when you consider that most of the guys here aren't working yet and they are all coming from extreme addiction and alcoholism, it really is a miracle.

We were going to have the party after Bible study tonight, but here in Michigan we are in the middle of a snowstorm. Bible study was cancelled! What would we do?

We decided to throw it here instead!

Of course I took pictures. I thought maybe you would like to see what recovering addicts and alcoholics look like when they come together to do something for someone else. I hope you enjoy!

Hopefully we gave this guy a birthday that he will remember...He deserves it.
