Filipinos' Favorite Sweet Treat: Halo-Halo #colourfulphotography
Here is my Thursday contribution to @juliank's @photocontests under the category #colourfulphotography and @howtostartablog's #dailyfoodphotography.
Photo taken using Nikon D5000.
Summer is just around the corner and halo-halo is one of many #Filipinos favorite sweet treats to beat the heat. The photo above was Max's Restaurant's special.
Every store offers different makes of halo-halo but ingredients could include:
- Leche flan
- Ube halaya (Yam jam)
- Different colored jellies
- Different colored sago pearls
- Sweetened banana
- Sweetened various beans
- Macapuno (coconut) balls
- Jackfruit
- Sweet potato
- Cheese
- Ice cream
- Rice crispies
- Sugar
- Milk
- Other ingredients
During summer, you can see many mini stalls like along the sidewalks where this can be bought. It's a sweet way to quench that thirst and beat the heat. Restaurants have this all year round as part of their menu but the most delicious ones I have tasted, in particular order, include those from Max's, Chowking, Mang Inasal and Kuya J. Max's halo-halo tops the list for me because it fits my taste - not too sweet.
I found out that this is not for everybody, however.
When I was tutoring Korean kids before, I took them one summer to Chowking. The sweltering heat just drains you and halo-halo is befitting or so I thought. It was their first time here in the Philippines and they have not tasted halo-halo yet. I ate mine and finished it with gusto. However, I noticed that one of my students did not even half his. He later told me he did not like it because he does not like some of the ingredients or most of them.
It's still cold here in #Baguio-City, not the right time to eat halo-halo. I'm itching for summer to arrive but I think it wants to wait a little bit. Thereby, I will be having an early weekend and spend it in the lowlands where the weather is hot. I plan to visit the beaches of Ilocos tomorrow so I am submitting this entry early.
I'll see you then when I get back.

P.S. too much resteem hurts your account, am even having a hard time finding your other blogs.
I just can't help it haha! I'll try to resteem as little as possible :)
I love the colours of that... Purple Ice Cream is that? I can certainly imagine that would be very cooling on a hot day.
It's ube (yam) ice cream :) Unfortunately, I wasn't able to eat yet. I was interested in eating the local cuisines in the lowlands.
One thing i look forward to when i travel is the food, different people and their different meals. I hope to try this soon. wonderful picture.
Me too. It's nice to try local food to know the difference or similarity to ours :)
Unusual food, I have not tried it :)
You can make your own if you have the ingredients available :)
