I am having the same problem and have considered turning my Discord account to only allow messages from friends. A very useful feature that not many use but it does make things difficult at times as you can't continue conversations you have started unless you get a mutual friendship going.
In that case, accept my friendship or I wont be able to spam you with my questions. :)
thank you for the heads up on this feature @themarkymark. I would imagine your spam levels are somewhat more than mine
