Selim was returning home after closing the shop at night. He saw the door of the next room open. The light was on inside, but no one was there. He wanted to close the door and leave, but then he wondered if someone was in danger inside? There was silence all around, only the barking of a distant dog. An unknown uneasiness was working in Selim's heart. He called out, but there was no answer. Still, he closed and locked the door and waited a little. It seemed that this waiting might be the most useful thing to do today. After a while, the old mistress came panting and said, "Son, I went to the market. I left the door open." Tears of gratitude were in her eyes. She also said, "If you weren't here today, my night would have been scary."
