A Day in My Life on a Nigerian Construction Site
My day starts early, usually before the sun even rises. I’m at the site, surveying the work for the day, checking materials, and preparing the crew. A single mistake here can delay the entire project, so attention to detail is everything.
By mid-morning, the site is alive with the sound of shovels, cement mixers, and trucks arriving. I move between workers, giving guidance and making sure safety rules are followed. It’s hard work, but I love the rhythm of seeing plans turn into reality under my eyes.
Lunch is often brief, just a small snack because the work doesn’t stop. The afternoons are spent troubleshooting problems: broken tools, drainage misalignments, or unexpected obstacles in the ground. Each challenge teaches me something new about planning, teamwork, and resilience.
By sunset, we wrap up, tired but satisfied. Looking back at the day, I see not just a construction site, but a story of effort, patience, and progress. Every drain laid, every concrete slab set, is proof that hard work pays in ways money can’t measure.
What’s the hardest part of your daily work, and what lessons has it taught you?
