Commonly consumed locally in Africa and mostly in the interior part of Nigeria.
It has traditionally accepted as a means of entertaining guests both at home and during ceremonies.

It is scientifically called Garcinia kola. It is a particlar specie of flowering plant found in mostly African countries like; Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory, Benin, cameroun, Sierria Lone, Senegal,and Congo.

All the parts of this part is known to be medicinal ranging from the fruit, seeds, nuts and barks. Right from the onset, it has being used traditionally to treat ailment like cough and cold. It is also known to treat infections related to the lungs and throat as well as some disorders in the liver. This is as a result of its anti-micobial and and anti-parasitic properties.
This is done by chewing it.

Benefits Of Bitter Kola.
Aside from the few mentioned above, it has various health benefits, these listed below:

1. Eye; It can help in cases of glaucoma by reducing the eye presure.
2. Fertility; It is believed to be a solution to male's infertity problems (impotency) if it is taking frequently.
3. Malaria; It was found that it has certain chemicals that are knpwn to contain antimalaria properties and even in time past, herbalist give bitter kola people with malaria as treatment.
4. Weight; It can be used to control excessive wight gain since reduces hunger and increases water intake,
5. HIV/AIDS; Because of its anti-biotic properties, research have shown that it has a tendency of fighting the virus and as such can be applied in treating the virus.

Bitter kola also has detoxifying an cleansing prperties. It can also be used in cases of arthritis.

Also know that bitter kola is very effective in repelling snakes and as such is adviced to spread around the house to chase away snakes.
Another wonderful thing abou thiis plant is the fact that it is an anti-poispnous plant, used to neutralize poison.
It is also believed to spiritual as it has the ability to chase evil. Though it is superstitous, peop;e actually believe it works.
