[CONTEST] Book Cover Art/Design for Upcoming STEEMIT Exclusive, Original Novel "TORN - Between Two Worlds" - Winner Receives 100% SBD Post Author Reward
Introduction
Steemit has given me the motivation to finally write the novel that has been stuck in my head for years. I am ready to start publishing soon, chapter by chapter, yet I'm still missing a viable cover. Something that will catch people's eye and pique their curiosity when they scroll by my post.
Unfortunately, I am neither artist, nor designer, nor do I have the funds to pay for one.
But I had an idea. It strikes me that steemit is not just a great place to publish my novel, it's also the perfect tool to find cover art for my book, and reward the creator, making both parties happy.
First, a little bit of background information on the general theme of the book, so you can get a sense of what a great cover might look like.
The Book (-Cover)
"TORN - Between Two Worlds" will be a hybrid of medieval fantasy and contemporary drama. The main character begins experiencing two realities, and loses sight of which one is the real world and which one is the dream/hallucination. Both require his full attention, so he must decide between the two. Between adventure, companionship, war and peril in one reality, depression, stress and loneliness, but relative security and comfort in the other.
I'm imagining a cover that reflects this struggle, maybe with a visualization of the clash between these realities. Modern cities and technology on one side, medieval villages, castles, armor, weaponry, and fantasy creatures on the other, whith our hero in the middle. Another option that came to mind would be a plain leather cover with gold lettering and maybe a gold steemit symbol in the middle between title and author.
But I'm sure there are many design possibilities I haven't even considered, and maybe you have a great surprise for me.
In any case, the design should include the book title and my username.
Do you have an idea? Great! On to how you can participate then:
Are you "just" curious about the book? Great! Don't forget to follow ;-)
The Contest
In order to participate and become eligible to win the prize:
- Upvote and resteem this post.
- Submit your design in the comments. It does not have to be an original design. You can use your existing work. You can either insert the picture directly, or create your own post and link to that. The latter option might yield greater rewards regardless of winning the contest.
The Fine Print
A few details for clarification:- The winner will be picked based on my own personal judgement, not the amount of upvotes the design receives. Though the latter will certainly influence my decision.
- It is possible that there will be no winner, if I simply do not like any of the submissions. In this case the SBD author post reward will be distributed between participants based on their comments' upvotes.

Well for full rights hopefully the payout is above 150$ - if it is below that it would be better for the artist to have access/rights to the design. Since not even 150$ is enough for full rights to a book cover. They are being undervalued at that point should they give away the rights. 500$ is standerd pricing for full rights to book cover work.
Huh. I did not know that and just wanted to avoid any accusations of having stolen the artwork for my cover. I guess I'll remove that condition, as it does not look like the payout will be sufficient then. Thanks for informing me.
No worries - When you give full rights away you are not even permitted to share/show the art yourself unless otherized by the person who paid for the piece. If you want to really spice it up - give a 5% royalty share and rights to use the image for their own purposes and see if people get interested then.
That's an interesting idea, but I think the main hurdle towards getting people interested is getting noticed and getting people to read the post content. I can't put everything in the title.
I'm just thinking out loud really. I do covers for a lot of stuff. So I just thought if cover artists are what you're looking for- gotta speak their language a little bit.
