The USA imposed new sanctions against Venezuela's national crypto currency
US President Donald Trump (Donald Trump) signed a government order to impose new sanctions against Venezuela because of its crypto currency El Petro.
Earlier it was reported that Trump plans to sign this week a document imposing additional sanctions on the Latin American country for trying to circumvent the existing economic restrictions. The order signed by the US president blocks any El Petro transactions in the US, the White House explained.
Even before the release of El Petro, the US Treasury Department warned citizens wishing to invest in the Venezuelan crypto currency, about the risk of persecution because of sanctions imposed on the country. But two influential senators - Marco Rubio (Marco Rubio) and Robert Menendez (Robert Menendez) - worried about the possibility of Venezuela's circumvention of sanctions with the help of El Petro. In this regard, they wrote an open letter to the Minister of Finance Steven Mnuchin (Steven Mnuchin). Although shortly before that, he bluntly stated that neither Russia nor Venezuela could circumvent the financial constraints by issuing a crypto currency.
The presale of the Venezuelan crypto-currency, secured by oil, was launched on February 20. President of the country Nicolas Maduro (Nicolas Maduro) has repeatedly stated the high interest in El Petro from investors. Not so long ago, he announced that through the sale of crypto-loans attracted $ 5 billion. Immediately after the start of sales of El Petro, Maduro announced the imminent release of another crypto currency - Petro Oro, secured by gold.
So far this has not happened, and experts express doubts about the sales figures of the national crypto currency of Venezuela, regularly voiced by the head of the country. Recall that the release of El Petro was recognized illegal by the parliament of Venezuela, and the ensuing events have already caused a negative reaction of the trade unions of the country.
