Will a cryptocurrency similar to Black Mirror's "Merit" ever exist?
Do you remember Black Mirror 1x02 episode, "15 Million Merits"?
I've never been a fan of it, but this is not what I wanted to talk about.
I don't want to talk about all the part about invasive ads and the reality show either.
My point is: what do you think about the process of mining by riding an exercise bike? By generating energy instead of spending it?
The concept might be extended as well to other clean energy production systems like solar panels for example.
For every clean watt generated, you get 1 unit of a crypto coin.
Nature would thank for sure!
Proof of power?
He-man and She-ra would be the most significant holders of that coin. For they have all the power of greyskull at their disposal.
Damn it, they'd even beat my idea of building a mining farm by enslaving thounsands of Pikachus!
BTW, proof of power may be granted by a device somehow implemented in the energy production system, which would get linked to a wallet.
Falling into consumption of mind numbing adds was in WALL-E and Idiocracy as well as for generating enough energy to offset individual usage I don't think we could even offset the energy required to build and recycle the machinery and distribution network.
Well, people may invest in building clean energy production systems instead of powerful computers to mine coins for example. I know investment entity would be way larger, there should be an adequate ROI to push people towards this.
