With Crypto Jobs Available, US Universities Are Turning to Blockchain Education

As blockchain has made blockchain wallets and crypto-investing accessible to everyone, demand for financial infrastructure built on the blockchain is exploding. Santander's World Blockchain Summit, currently scheduled to take place at Santander, is the first of its kind, featuring 120 leading speakers and their world-renowned speakers. With nearly 50 blockchain-focused speakers, the event could be a launching point for blockchain recruitment within universities. University recruitment firms and recruitment service firms such as forHR, will participate, in collaboration with local agencies.

Blockchain, a term once only familiar to Bitcoin (BTC) enthusiasts, is becoming one of the most in-demand business skills for 2020. According to a recent LinkedIn blog post, blockchain technology is the most sought-after hard skill this year. The post noted: “The small supply of professionals who have this skill are in high demand.”

Currently, there are no blockchain jobs that pay enough to attract a blockchain-focused graduate, and this new marketing campaign could bring people from countries in Europe and Asia to develop blockchain skills.
Over the past four months, we've spoken with a number of business executives who have adopted or are considering blockchain initiatives. Most of these efforts came out of university lectures and conferences, and several of the schools noted that they're looking to update their curricula, such as Coursera.

In turn, blockchain courses offered at universities are becoming more common, as the need for the skill set rises. A key finding from Coinbase’s second yearly report on higher education shows that 56% of the world’s top 50 universities offer at least one course on cryptocurrencies or blockchain technology — a 42% increase from 2018.
