Why do you need to pay for an account? Apparently they're some free options out there. I don't think people are willing to pay for a new technology they just discovered when free alternatives exist. Like with free whatsapp vs paid encrypted messengers.

    The new account creation fee is charged by the EOS network. Those free options you mention are still having to pay this fee.
