Many of the big tech companies work with U.S. intelligence agencies such as Google. We should all be more mindful of how our private data is being used by big business and government.
I would recommend using the Signal app which is open source and provides end to end encryption for all messages/calls.
It is endorsed by people such as Edward Snowden who knows a thing or two about surveillance.
