You know its not really about the capabilities of the coin example :
when you compare bitcoin to dash you'll notice that dash has improved bitcoin's weaknesses but the market never favored it over bitcoin !!
Dash never really had an application though. All it had was Privacysend - this is plainly not a killer app. Steemit, Waves and Ethereum all have dencentralized apps that draw in rabid users. At the end of the day people want a coin that will entertain them :)
