Bitcoin Created by U.S. Government, says Natalya Kaspersky

Natalya Kaspersky, known for her principal role in the foundation of Kaspersky Labs, presented some interesting assertions about Bitcoin at a university in St. Petersburg.

The search for the elusive and mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto is over, if Natalya Kaspersky — former CEO of Kaspersky Labs and current CEO of InfoWatch — is to be believed.

At a speech she was giving in ITMO University in St. Petersburg, Kaspersky declared that the U.S. government is behind the creation of Bitcoin and that the country is using the cryptocurrency in conjunction with other intelligence agencies.

We can see her declaration in one of the slides she showed to students in her presentation:

“Bitcoin is a project of American intelligence agencies, which was designed to provide quick funding for U.S., British, and Canadian intelligence activities in different countries. [The technology] is ‘privatized,’ just like the internet, GPS, and TOR. In fact, it is ‘Dollar 2.0’. Its rate is controlled by the owners of exchanges.”
Indeed, onion routing (colloquially known as TOR) came into being with funding from the U.S. federal government, through DARPA.

However, we have no concrete proof that Bitcoin was created with United States government’s money.

During her speech, Kaspersky also claimed that Satoshi Nakamoto is merely a nickname for a group of American cryptographers.

In addition to her comments on Bitcoin, we can see what she has to say about eBay (on the same slide):

“The eBay website (and its PayPal payment system) — Monopolist of world trade through the internet. Arrangements or increased fees for Russia, to violate the economic balance and logistics of enterprises.”
In another slide, she explains that smartphones are not personal gadgets, but devices that are meant for spying on their owners.

A flashlight application for one’s phone with over 50 million installations, she asserts, asks for permission to access various pieces of personal information.

“The user in 99% of cases agrees to everything.”

People have been speculating for years about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.

We’ve thought we heard it all when a former SpaceX intern said that he might be Elon Musk, but Natalya Kaspersky is making an even bolder claim.

Its a compelling article, but I don't think it has enough leverage to say that the government actually created bitcoin.
