Hello Steemians,

This post is my official entry for Geo-Quest Mystery Week 2: The Sound Map.

For this challenge, I did not choose a street, a café, or a busy market.
Instead, I returned to a place where sound does not come from machines or routines, but from living voices.

I chose Ferme Abdalah, Tunisia a place where animals communicate constantly, and where listening becomes more important than looking.

Why I Chose Animal Sounds

Most sound maps focus on human activity.
This time, I wanted to explore a different layer of our world.

At Ferme Abdalah, sound is alive.
It moves, reacts, answers, and sometimes overlaps in unexpected ways.

Each animal expresses itself differently: some sounds are deep and slow, others are sharp and sudden, some are calm, and others feel almost foreign to the land.

This place taught me that sound is not background noise.
It is presence, intention, and identity.

The Story Behind the Sounds

I arrived at the farm with my focus on listening.
I stood still, closed my eyes, and allowed the environment to speak.

Within one minute, the soundscape revealed itself.

A heavy breath traveled through open space.
A sharp call cut the air and claimed attention.
Soft steps repeated on dry ground, creating rhythm.
Water responded quietly to movement.
And between all of this, unfamiliar voices appeared not local, not wild, yet perfectly integrated.

Nothing here is random.
Each sound belongs to a living being with its own rhythm and emotion.

This experience adds a new layer to my Geo-Quest journey.
In Week 1, I defined where my exploration began.
In Week 2, I define how my world sounds when I truly listen.

Speem.watch Proof Video Let the Place Speak

This Speem.watch video was recorded on location at Ferme Abdalah using an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an external microphone to preserve the natural clarity of the soundscape.

In the video, you can clearly hear the natural voices of:

  • Ostrich
  • Deer (male and female)
  • Pygmy goat
  • Bengal cat
  • Llama
  • Pink flamingo
  • Racka sheep
  • Black swans
  • Emu
  • Rooster (Ayam Cemani)

It captures real sound, real distance, and real interaction.

At the end of the video, the image becomes blurred.
One animal is hidden from sight but its sound remains clear.

Hidden Sound Challenge The Final Voice

Most animals in this Sound Map are visible and identifiable.
Their voices form a shared and recognisable environment.

However, one sound is different.

In the final seconds of the video:

  • the image is blurred
  • the animal is not named anywhere
  • only the sound remains

Your challenge:

  1. Name three animal sounds you clearly recognized in the video
  2. Then, try to identify the final blurred animal using sound only

No visual clues.
No written hints.
Only listening.

What This Sound Map Represents

Ferme Abdalah does not shout.
It speaks continuously.

Listening here teaches patience.
It teaches attention.
And it reminds us that exploration is not always about distance.

Sometimes, it is about being still long enough to hear.

Final Thoughts

Ferme Abdallah is not a loud place, but it is never silent.
Here, sound feels alive and intentional.
Each animal contributes its own voice, creating a layered soundscape that changes from one moment to the next. When you stop moving and start listening, the farm reveals its true identity not through images, but through rhythm, breath, and response.
For Week 2 of Geo-Quest Mystery, this place represents how listening can be as powerful as seeing.
From my Origin Point, my map now expands through sound one voice, one pause, and one hidden call at a time.

It;s a beautifully done job and if I am not mistaken the animal on your shoulders is a monkey or very similar one. All the best!

Yes, that’s correct It’s a monkey.
Thank you so much for your kind words really appreciate it.

Hola, amigo. Veo que allí hay un animal propio de América del Sur. Sospecho que allí hay un ave australiana y pienso que ese gallo es fantástico. Saludos.

Thank you for your comment.
Yes there are many animals from America here and the animal at the end of the video is not a bird.

Dear friend, you have participated in the word challenge about a very beautiful place. The animal sounds were perfect which was good to understand and listen to. I heard the sounds of three animals i.e. ostrich, deer and goat. The second one at the end of the video seems to be the sound of a monkey. Did I answer correctly?

Thank you so much my friend.
Yes your answer is correct you identified the sounds very well.
Ostrich, deer, and goat are right and the last one does sound like a monkey.
Great listening.

The animals you mentioned are very interesting. For me, it's a different experience, I haven't seen any other animals with my own eyes except sheep, roosters, buffaloes, and deer. After enjoying your video, I was able to recognize the sounds of sheep, rooster, buffalo, and deer. It was a really clear sound. I wish you success in this competition.

Thank you so much for your kind comment and encouragement.
I really appreciate it. I will also try to participate in your challenge this week with a good post
I wish you great success.

I am happy to receive your reply. Have a nice day.

Thank you for your participation in Geo-Quest Mystery – Week 2: The Sound Map. Here is an evaluation of the post by @marwene, following the official Week 2 rubric for Geo-Quest Mystery.

Evaluation Summary

CriteriaScoreComments
1. SteemAtlas Pin & Sound Description1.75 / 2.0The SteemAtlas pin is included with clear coordinates and a named location (Ferme Abdallah, Tunisia). The post also provides practical context (area, environment, sound sources), which helps readers imagine the setting. To reach full points, keep the place name spelling consistent (Abdalah/Abdallah) and add one short “visitor-friendly” line describing what you hear immediately upon arrival.
2. Creativity of Mission & Hidden Clue1.55 / 2.0Choosing an animal-focused soundscape is a strong and original interpretation of the Sound Map theme, and the “blurred final animal” twist is engaging. To score higher, the hidden sound challenge should rely more on indirect clues (metaphors/hints) rather than listing many animals/sounds explicitly, so the mystery element stays stronger and fairer.
3. Speem.watch Proof Video (Focus on Sound)2.35 / 2.5A direct Speem.watch link is provided, and the concept clearly prioritizes ambient sound (with mention of using an external microphone). For full points, add a very short spoken intro (location + “Sound Map spot”) and ensure a few seconds of stable visual markers before letting the audio lead.
4. Storytelling Quality2.25 / 2.5The narrative is immersive and structured around listening (“one full minute” approach), with effective contrast between heavy, sharp, soft, and “foreign” voices. The link back to the Week 1 journey is clear and meaningful. It could be even stronger with 2–3 ultra-specific sound details (direction, echo, distance, repeating rhythm).
5. Engagement (Comments / Sound Guessing)0.4 / 1.0The participant actively interacted in the comment section, replied to multiple users, and encouraged sound guessing—especially valuable as an early/first entry that helped kickstart engagement for Week 2. To secure full points in future weeks, clearly show (or mention with links) guesses made on at least two other participants’ posts.

Final Score: 8.3 / 10

Remarks:
This is a creative and well-presented Sound Map entry with a distinctive “living voices” atmosphere and a strong sound-first approach. The key upgrades to reach the very top scores are: (1) keep the hidden sound challenge more “hidden” through metaphor clues, (2) add a short spoken intro in the video for stronger proof, and (3) document engagement beyond replies by visibly guessing sounds on other entries.
