This may be the thing that makes me switch to commenting on others and help building the community rather than writing my own posts. Why I haven't heard about this before.

You still need to post to be successful here. I made this mistake in my first months and did only a couple of posts a week while commenting on about 50 posts a day. One I changed to 1 post a day and 20 comments - things got much better for me.
Yeah, that's what I'll try doing.
Good luck. Based on my experience, get the post out first. If I start commenting the post may not go out at all :)
