I thought all dating apps were the same until i tried this one
Let me be honest right from the start. I had zero expectations. Actually less than zero. After years of cycling through the usual big names, i assumed every dating app was built from the same broken blueprint. Swipe, match, silence. Or swipe, match, weird compliment, silence. Repeat until you delete everything and swear off dating for three months.
But last winter i got really bored during a long rainy weekend. A random comment on some unrelated thread mentioned Hily dating app. No big hype, no dramatic claims. Just someone saying "it's quieter here and people act normal." That sounded fake but also exactly what i wanted. So i downloaded it with zero hope and fully expected to delete it within 48 hours.
The first evening surprised me. Not because matches flooded in, they didn't. But the people who did match actually wrote full sentences. Real questions about things from my profile. One person asked about a book i mentioned. Another shared a funny story about their failed sourdough attempt. Small human moments that reminded me why talking to strangers can be nice.
Week two got even better. I had my first video call on the app instead of rushing to exchange numbers. Zero awkwardness. We talked for an hour about nothing and everything. No pressure to meet immediately. No weird energy when i said i was tired and needed to go.
Now it's been three months. I'm not saying i found a fairytale ending. But i met someone i actually look forward to texting. We've been on four dates and i'm cooking them dinner next week. The other conversations that didn't go anywhere still ended politely. Nobody ghosted. Nobody got rude. Just adults being adults.
So here's my honest take for anyone feeling burnt out. This app won't fix your life or hand you a perfect partner on a silver plate. But it might remind you that dating can be normal again. No games. No performance. Just people being people. And that alone made it worth keeping on my phone.
