Shall we spit the 1st date bill... a question about time vs money
I am French, so maybe my point of view do not abide by the "dating" rules, but it's a point of view I expect to be above countries boundaries.
The question of sharing the 1st bill is universal. Usually money means power, but as a man do I want to exercise power over a woman I have just met and I am into ?
As a woman, don't you have rather being seduced by wits, fun, rather by an ability to provide for food ?
Some guys expect more of a date, it they pay, some women don't want to be bought....
Anyway, there is not an universal reply to this question, it's a matter of time and people.
For me, it's more about understanding time is more valuable than money when it comes to dating. Let the time play for you, see if you go on chatting and laughing.
There will always be a time to pay, either when you/her get bored, or when the waiter kicks you out because the place is closing.
Let's hope it's more the latter..
The rule is the person who extended the invitation pays. So if it is a first date, and you invited her, you pay. On the next date, you can go dutch, and often she will offer to cook dinner for you, to make it even.
My line is always "I'm a chauvinist, so I'm going to pay for us, but I'll arm-wrestle you for it if you really want a shot."
Yes, you do. And so does she, most of the time (in this nonphysical and nonthreatening manner, to be perfectly clear). If she doesn't, she'll tell you, and then you can stop.
