Rotterdam- History

ENG:Rotterdam was fully destroyed after the second World War. Over 800 people died and approximately 80,000 people were homeless after the war. Rotterdam had to build up totally new city. That's mainly the reason why you can not find so many old buildings in Rotterdam and everything seems to be new and modern. Rotterdam's port is one of the most modern and biggest ports of the world.

DEU: Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg war die Stadt total zerstört. Über 800 Menschen sind gestorben und circa 80.000 Menschen waren obdachlos. Die Stadt wurde neu aufgebaut und viele alte, historische Gebäude konnten nicht mehr gerettet werden. Daher, ist das Stadtbild von Rotterdam sehr modern. Zudem, besitzt Rotterdam einen der modernsten und größten Häfen der Welt

Population

ENG: While you walk through Rotterdam you notice the cultural diversity. You can see people from all over the world and hear a lot of different languages everywhere you go. A lot of immigrants from the dutch colonies, turkey, morocco and Kap Verde and over 6000 people from Germany are living in Rotterdam. Currently Rotterdam has a bit more than 600, 000 habitants.

DEU: Während man durch Rotterdam läuft, spürt man die kulturelle Vielfältigkeit. Man sieht Menschen aus vielen verschiedenen Ländern und an jeder Ecke wird eine andere Sprache gesprochen. Viele Menschen aus den niederländischen Kolonien, Marokko, der Türkei, Kap Verde und über 6000 Menschen aus Deutschland wohnen in Rotterdam. Aktuell hat Rotterdam etwas mehr als 600.000 Einwohner

Attractions in Rotterdam

ENG: I can highly recommend to do a sightseeing tour with the bus at your first day. Rotterdam is a huge city and the distances between the attractions should not be underestimated. What you definetly have to see is the Market Hall in Rotterdam. As you can see in the following picture it is huge market, where you can find fresh food, souvenirs and more. Moreover, I can recommend to visit the Euromast, from where you have the best outlook over the city. During my stay i really enjoyed to just walk through the beautiful city and explore more about the culture and architecture.

DEU: Als erstes würde ich in Rotterdam mit dem Sightseeing Bus eine Tagestour empfehlen. Die Entfernungen in der Stadt sind riesig und teilweise schwer zu erreichen. Ein absolutes Muss ist die Markt Halle in Rotterdam, wo ihr verschiende Spezialitäten kaufen, essen und genießen könnt. Vom Euromast hat man eine wunderschöne Aussicht über die Stadt. Persönlich stand für mich die Architektur während meiner Reise im Vordergrund

Architecture

ENG: Rotterdam is world wide know for its modern and beautiful architecture. Everywhere you can find different types of architecture. For example you walk through the small old city then you just pass the street and you stand in front of an enormous skyscrapper. I can highly recommend to people who are interested in architecture to do a architecture guide tour through Rotterdam by ArchiGuide.

DEU: Die Architektur ist in Rotterdam einfach beeindruckend. Ich kann gar nicht mit Worten beschreiben was man dort alles erlebt. Der Misch aus moderner Architektur mit den übergebliebenen historischen Gebäuden skizziert eine sehr interessante Stadt. Ich kann wirklich empfehlen eine Architekturführung durch Rotterdam zu machen, um die Perlen der Stadt hautnah zu sehen.
