2 October and our plans for the future - 2. Oktober und unsere Zukunftspläne

Well, after far too long a time in Germany, we're finally off again. To be more precise, on 2 October. Destination: Sri Lanka.

Why Sri Lanka? We have been there for 6 months already....
That does not explain itself in a few lines, but nevertheless I would like to explain it as exactly as possible to you. Sri Lanka has something special about it. Those who have been there longer than a few weeks can feel into us. There are so many different places in Sri Lanka, but still very little space. Beach, Surforte, warmth, tea plantations, cinnamon factories, waterfalls, the highlands, cold, fog, elephants.... It is by no means all that I have enumerated here. But above all there are friendly people who are really friendly and open from the heart.

We will film a documentary on Sri Lanka. Not about us, but about the country and the people. I can't say today how long this documentary will be, but I'm planning about 45-120 minutes. So no short film that shows everything superficially within 2 minutes.

For this project I have learned a lot about video shooting and am still learning. I also bought a Cine lens and sold 2 of my normal lenses for it. Photography I still find very interesting, that will be also further very present. In the same way I provided my Canon 70D with magic lantern and worked myself into it. If you don't know magic Lantern yet, this is a firmware hack that adds extended and professional functions for certain Canon cameras. One of them is filming in RAW format and there are other options like focus peak and much more. Since my 70D isn't the newest camera anymore, but still one of the best autofukus still owned by DSLR, I continue with this camera. The good piece has accompanied me on many experiences. Those who are familiar with movies know that you usually focus manually, but I will still film people and for that I need this ingenious autofocus again. With the magic Lantern firmware I can also overtack the SD card controller on the camera and thus achieve high write rates for the 70D, which is only the 5D series has.

The whole project documentary film will take some months on Sri Lanka, because we will drive the whole country.

It's the first time that I do something like this at all and that alone, without a film crew.

Although I have been documenting my journey and adventures for a long time now, I don't know exactly what to expect. A little bit afraid if I have not set my own claim too high, the organization for the scenes and places, that is again a completely different number, than if one visits these places for photos.

What I have done until today as a disguised tourist, I will now with the current project very strongly attract the attention of the locals. I am curious how it will be.....

Nun, nach viel zu langer Zeit in Deutschland, geht es nun endlich wieder los. Genauer gesagt am 2. Oktober. Ziel: Sri Lanka.

Warum Sri Lanka? Wir waren doch schon 6 Monate dort....
Das erklärt sich zwar nicht in ein paar Zeilen, aber dennoch möchte ich es so genau wie möglich euch erklären. Sri Lanka hat etwas Besonderes an sich. Wer länger als ein paar Wochen dort war, der kann sich in uns hinein fühlen. Es gibt auf Sri Lanka so viel verschiedene Orte auf dennoch recht wenig Platz. Strand, Surforte, Wärme, Teeplantegen, Zimtfabriken, Wasserfälle, das Hochland, Kälte, Nebel, Elefanten.... Es ist noch lange nicht alles, was ich hier aufgezählt habe. Aber vor allem gibt es freundliche Menschen, die auch wirklich vom Herzen her freundlich und offen sind.

Wir werden auf Sri Lanka eine Dokumentation filmen. Nicht über uns, sondern über das Land und den Menschen. Ich kann heute noch nicht sagen, wie lange dieser Dokumentarfilm sein wird, aber ich plane mit so etwa 45-120 Minuten. Also kein Kurzfilm, der innerhalb von 2 Minuten alles nur oberflächlich zeigt.

Ich habe mich für dieses Vorhaben einiges fürs Videodrehen angelernt und lerne immer noch. Ebenso ein Cine Objektiv mir angeschafft, und dafür 2 meiner normalen Objektive dafür verkauft. Fotografie finde ich immer noch sehr interessant, das wird auch weiterhin sehr präsent sein. Genauso habe ich meine Canon 70D mit magic Lantern versehen und mich darin eingearbeitet. Wer magic Lantern noch nicht kennt, das ist ein Firmware Hack, der für gewisse Canon Kameras erweiterte und professionelle Funktionen hinzufügt. Eines davon ist das Filmen in RAW Format und es gibt noch weitere Optionen wie Fokus Peak und vieles vieles mehr. Da meine 70D zwar nicht mehr die Neuteste Kamera ist, aber dennoch immer noch bis heute eines der besten Autofukus besitz bei DSLR, fahre ich mit dieser Kamera weiter. Das gute Stück hat mich auf vielen Erlebnissen begleitet. Wer sich mit Filmen auskennt, der weiß, dass man meistens manuell fokussiert, dennoch werde ich auch Personen filmen und dafür brauche ich diesen genialen Autofokus wieder. Mit der magic Lantern Firmware kann ich ebenso den SD Karten Kontroller übertackten an der Kamera und somit hohe Schreibraten für die 70D erreichen, welche sind nur die 5D Serie hat.

Das ganze Projekt Dokumentarfilm wird einige Monate auf Sri Lanka in Anspruch nehmen, denn wir werden das ganze Land abfahren.

Zu diesem vorhaben wird es dann auch noch mehr Infos geben und vielleicht auch einen kurzen Einblick.

Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich so etwas überhaupt mache und das auch noch alleine, ohne Film Crew.

Obwohl ich nun schon sehr lange Reise, und die Abenteuer dokumentiere , weiß ich nicht ganz genau was mich erwartet. Ein bisschen Angst ob ich meinen eigenen Anspruch nicht zu hoch gesetzt habe, die Organisation für die Szenen und Orte, das ist wieder eine ganz andere Nummer, als wenn man für Fotos diese Orte besucht.

Was ich bis heute als getarnter Tourist gemacht habe, werde ich nun mit dem jetzigen Vorhaben sehr stark vor Ort bei den Einheimischen auffallen. Ich bin gespannt wie es sein wird.....
