Hello and..

Welcome to Svilos!

Here, in the middle of the hilly greenery, lays the wonderful animal shelter, supported by Animal Care Austria.

On the welcoming committee:

Vrcka

Alpinista_0476.jpg

And Alpinista

They both will come to greet you as you enter the shelter territory, with wagging tails and requests for belly rubs, but each on her "own" territory, as each is a queen of her own kingdom :D

Rudi will jump on the roof at your arrival, looking forward to say hello!

Rudi_0455.jpg

Can you believe that he's already 8 years old?

The Svilos dogs are quite the olympic jumpers I must say and they all are happy to demonstrate their talent!

Nina_6475.jpg

Like Nina for instance, who I personally call "Rocket" ;D

Let's go inside and greet everyone!

Meet Wilfrid

(Who is always camera shy)

and Tessa.

They are the incredible couple of Animal Care Austria, who are incharge of caring for the Svilos shelter. They drive to Serbia so often, built, fix, construct, plan, help these dogs get their titter tests and get adopted in the EU. Their work is incredible and in the 3 years passed since our first visit there, the shelter has changed drastically and keeps on getting better and better!

Here are Carol & Jakob.

Carol is the head of Animal Care Austria, the one who works around the clock and travel any distance to help shelter dogs in need!
Jakob is our new team member who joined the trip and worked non stop- building, fencing, cutting bushes....

And we also have to meet the wonderful Serbian team who run the shelter on a daily basis and always with a huge smile on their face:
Ljubica - the one and only!, Mira, Nikola, Stefan & Mirko

It is time to say goodbye...

But don't worry, it's not for long! We will be back in Svilos next week!! And will return with new experiences and thousands of new photos :D

Thank you for reading and for your support! <3

Enjoy your time here:)

just found this by chance following up on a comment - about those dogs: my sister adopted 2 dogs that came from Serbia, the last one is a special case, has a bullet in it's spine so the hind legs are lame. She is going to consult with her vet about it. I already researched dog wheelchairs for her.

A huge thank to your sister for adopting this dog! <3
Unfortunately, it is not rare for us to find dogs with bullets in them in areas like Serbia and Hungary :(
Now a days there are wonderful solutions for handicapped dogs and they can live & enjoy their lives to the fullest, so even if he won't be able to use his hind legs again, a wheelchair can be a great solution.
<3

Until he gets his wheelchair, he crawls around in the yard like a seal - quite quick too! Just the other dog she has (also a rescue) is sort of hyperactive, a mousehunter who stops and starts digging every few step out in nature - but she has to be kept away from him, because she is too rough and wants to play .... I looked at these, but she has to find a place in Austria where they make them to measure, rather than guessing by mailorder. https://www.handicappedpets.com/adjustable-dog-wheelchairs/

The most famous ones are Eddie's Wheels. They make them per order and they have instructions how to measure the dog: https://eddieswheels.com/p/26/A-Visual-Guide-to-Measuring-Your-Dog
Though they are in the US and I'm not sure how the import will be with customs and such..
I don't know of someone in Austria, but I can ask around.
