The Concubine is a Prose that centres on a girl in a village, any man who proposes to her and tends to marry her dies, her husband Emenike dies and another young man in the proposes to her while that is on another married man lustfully wants to have her but is using the land owned by her late husband Emenike as his antics the man is killed by a snake's venom because since he was poisoned in process and abandoned by his wife he decided to commit suicide and Ihuoma Emenike's wife which he lust after is no longer in the picture, mysterious things are happening because Ihuoma whom every young man in the village wishes to have is believed to be an Abiku, she is believed not to be an ordinary human but have a spiritual connection with the spirits because any man who tries to have a link with her dies, her husband Emenike is a victim, a man who is lusting after her dies, another is asking for her hand in marriage but his parents don't approve of it he is adamant and he dies at the end of it, Ihuoma cannot be resisted by men in the village but everyman around her dies so she is a source of sorrow to her mother.
