Government is not Governmenting

Many people I've seen give up on help that they actually qualify for. They didn't want to stop, it was just that the process wore them out before they could even get the help they might have gotten. The government system we have in some parts of the world doesn't just make it difficult, it makes it difficult in a way that makes it look like it is your fault that you gave up so soon when the truth is it was not going to happen or it might have happened but at a ridiculous price to pay.

They write most of the forms using terms that assume you already know how this works. This can make keeping track of all of the deadlines difficult because they will eventually keep piling up. When you go to request the documentation they need from you, a lot of times they will request you to provide documentation that you don't have so people will stop right there because they don't have the ability to keep going.

I don't think that this is a mere happenstance, do you?

If a system is difficult to navigate through, then you will process fewer claims than a system that is easy to navigate. So, then, fewer claims equals fewer payouts. So the edge case for confusion is not an issue of the system in any way, it is actually doing exactly what it was designed to, make it hell for you and easier for them.

When a person doesn't follow through with their application, I don't call that laziness as I would have before, I call it the expectation of the process outliving a person. They are not more deserving just because they have more time, less support or someone who knows they need to cut the corners to get through.

Access to help shouldn't be determined by how much abuse a person can take before breaking and right now, that is exactly how it works.

We are continually telling struggling people to work harder. It sounds like I'm complaining over something I can't stop, maybe I actually am but if someone can relate to this, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
