Things that don't come back

There are silent moments in everyone's life,
when they realize that some things
will never be the same again.

Not because we didn't try,
nor because the path was impossible,
but simply because time...
doesn't like repetition.

The places where we laughed so much
become just ordinary streets.

Long conversations
turn into silent memories.

And faces that were once
part of our day
become just names
that occasionally pass through our minds.

We don't lose things all at once,
but rather slowly.

A less frequent message,
A postponed meeting,
A silence longer than usual...
Until we find ourselves
on a different shore of life.

But the truth we learn too late
is that the beauty wasn't in the things remaining,
but in the fact that we lived them authentically
when they were with us.

Some moments
were not meant to last,
but were created
to leave a deep mark on us,
enough to make us different people.

And so life goes on:
It doesn't give us back what it takes,
but it always gives us
a more understanding version of ourselves.
