Why do we lose ourselves while trying to build our lives?

in Dream Steem2 days ago

When we were younger...
We thought life was simple.
We had a clear vision:
We would study, then graduate, then work, and things would gradually improve.

We thought everything would be orderly and straightforward.
But as we grew a little older...
We discovered that life doesn't always go according to plan.

We discovered that some paths are longer than we expected.
That some dreams take more years than we thought.
And that some battles aren't with circumstances...
But with ourselves.

The problem isn't that we don't know what we want.
Often, we do.
But we get tired of the long journey.
We get tired of waiting.

We get tired of constantly trying without clear results.
We get tired of seeing others succeed while we're still running.
And that's where the real danger begins.
Not that we fail.

But that we lose ourselves in the pursuit.
That we become people who know nothing but worry.
Who know nothing but thinking about the future.

Who know nothing but chasing goals.
And we forget to live.
We forget to rejoice in small steps.
We forget to celebrate modest progress.
We forget to ask ourselves a crucial question:
"Am I still living my life... or am I just postponing it until I arrive?"

Because some people spend years saying:
"I'll rest when I succeed."
"I'll be happy when I arrive."
"I'll truly live when my circumstances improve."
Then the years pass...

And they discover that they were simply postponing life itself.
The truth I've recently learned is this:
No one ever reaches a point where all problems disappear.
And no one lives a life completely free of worry or fear.

But the most peaceful people...
are those who have learned to live in the moment.
To rejoice in what they have while striving for what they want.
To thank themselves for the effort before the outcome.
To allow themselves rest without guilt.

And so...
If you're striving for a big goal right now,

Don't let the goal steal your path.
Keep working.
Keep learning.
Keep striving.
But don't forget to live.

Don't forget to occasionally turn to yourself and ask, "How are you really doing?"
Not as a mere formality... but out of genuine concern.

Because no matter what achievements you attain, they won't hold much meaning if you reach them having lost yourself along the way.
