Are you self taught?
For my morning's meditation I was thinking about how I learn and considering whether there's another way for me to learn. Maybe I could have had better tutors. Some teachers teach better than others and they can make a kid you think is dumb look smart in a few months.
School teaches you what to think but only a few learn how to think and that is everything, I think.
Everyone important, the ones who actually accomplished something in the world, built their understanding on top of what they were given. They didn't stop at the syllabus, they became involved in the underlying concepts. Reading more than the syllabus. Doing projects the teacher never even gave to them. They didn't want to pass, they wanted to be experts in what they were learning.
They challenged the information which was given as fact, question why everything is the way it is and not different. They stayed after the lesson ended, they stayed mentally. Thinking about it while they eat.
A degree to me is a proof that you attended. What you do with the knowledge after the classroom is empty, from that point the education really begins.
Self education is not you refusing school, it's when you finally understand what school can and can't supply you with. School gives you the structure, some instruments and tools but what it does not give you is hunger and passion to do well in your chosen field. That part is all on you
It is a personal thing, either you have it or you develop it, no school can give it to you.
The most intelligent people you will ever meet share one thing, they never lost their eagerness to learn, not from the system but from the world around them.
The conversations they have become a lesson and all the things they failed at become data to use next time which will increase their chances of success. They don't stay in their field alone because they know that a book outside their field can rewire how they see their field.
Formal education is a building with people in rooms but your self education is when you refuse to remain in it.
It's sad when we have many young ones thinking graduating spells the end of education for them.
If you understand the true purpose of education, graduation is an opportunity not an end. You're beginning a new journey with more direction, infact it's a more intense education and more opportunities to learn than any school can offer.

🎉 Congratulations!
