I tried to really understand courage and fear
They say courage is not the absence of fear but the will to go on when the fear is there.
Someone said it much better and I'll share it today.
Courage does not mean you are not afraid. You’re afraid when something matters. You feel it before you muster up the courage to have a hard talk, before you quit that job, before you say the words that could break up your relationship. Your fear proves you understand that it matters.
So the question isn’t am I afraid? The real question is, is it worth it?
Bravery to me is a choice. This choice can be a simple one, even when it is difficult. Think about what you could lose and compare it with what you could become if you walked away. One of them has to win.
There’s no difference between brave people and you. You too feel risk. Rosa Parks and Mandela felt fear. They chose to keep going because doing nothing is more costly than going forward.
People believe courage is a special talent bestowed only on a few. That is a lie that makes you want to quit. It turns out that if courage is a choice, then fear is a feeling that you choose to ignore. Bravery means you're choosing to move through your fear. So friends, don’t wait to be brave. Bravery is just what the choice appears like when you look at it from the perspective of other people.
You understand your fear and you understand its cost. The only thing left to do is choose.
