I've seen your diploma ok

Is it just me or is it the way things are right now, it is starting to look like a norm, certificates have become more important than experience.

Credentials have devalued real knowledge. We've equated a diploma to real quote on quote education but it is not.

You can pass a class and still be ignorant. Because you were not smart enough to think, you were smart enough to remember and to comply as if showing up to class was the end. Learning isn't always easy and for the most part it's harder as you go up to higher educational levels. It is confusing and can even be contradictory. It is full of moments of failure. Learning is not a classroom with a bell and a start of the year schedule. It's also not the graduation ceremony.

People value the wrong kind of learning. They think learning is just some deadlines and grades. But a person told me that familiarity is not understanding. They get to the end, with the paper and college graduat frame and still don't know nothing.

You have more knowledge does not mean better thinking. We have all seen your diploma Jasmine, ok, stop shoving it in my face.

The diploma is not what creates the thinkers. Nowadays it's just more people who delude themselves into think they are intellectuals because they did the work to become one. It has become more of a barrier to stop the credential holder in their tracks and stop their progress.

There's no more questions, no more research because they have the proof, right there on the wall. Useless proof if you can't really do anything in the real world.

Real thinkers understand that the journey of education is never really over. There is no pass a finish line. Just a never ending, difficult journey of slowly getting less and less wrong.

They're not telling you this on graduation day, but it is the reality.
