Was it worth it?
This might be taken differently if you don't first consider the context in which I'm attempting to say this but I'll go ahead and let it out, and I'll write it in all caps.
SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT WORTH ARGUING WITH BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY CANNOT PROCESS THE FACT THAT OTHER PEOPLE'S PERSPECTIVE ACTUALLY EXISTS ON PLANET EARTH.
This is as respectful as I can put, I feel like sugarcoating it will do nothing but change the meaning of what I wanted to say.
If you have finally come to agree with this before you even read this blog, know that that was not your ego talking, but a true acceptance of how these people think.
Take a few seconds or minutes of self reflection before arguing with someone, and ask whether this person can think of multiple contradictory views, accept that those views are as valuable as theirs and choose to sit with you and talk things out in the most diplomatic way the both of you can.
If you think I'm right, you're not only a smart person you have experienced so many arguments backfiring into heated arguments because someone doesn't care about different perspectives. You know how this ends.
You will give your arguments, all solid points, and they will be adamant and hold on to their views. In the end, they think they won and you lose, so funny.
Losing of arguments is rarely based on the merits of the arguments themselves. They are lost because it started with the wrong audience. Everytime you try with the wrong audience, your communication skill means nothing to them.
Knowing who you are talking to before opening your mouth is one of the most intelligent things you can do in an argument. Some are just uncomfortable to the opinion of others and think the mere presentation of a new perspective is an attack on them. That is not a misconception you can reform in the course of the argument because your endeavor to tackle that issue is also going to be seen as an attack so stop trying that.
Please note that I'm not telling you to be dismissive. You should be honest with yourself. Your time and energy are very limited and too valuable for everything random thing on this planet. Not many people operate within this intersection, but the ones that do can engage with the answers to the questions you pose.
For everyone else, let them have it. Not because they deserve it, because the conversation isn't worth it.
