Some people usually find entertainment in the way aliens are shown in different films and science fiction stories and I'm like that too.

But here's a story I'm narrating to give your a perspective on alien movies.

Story Time

One evening Tareq discussed that matter with his friends and was surprised at what he heard. As far as the boy knows, aliens are always shown as if they belong to one race in different stories.

On our planet, Earth we know the variety of different races is very big.

Tareq tried to make some points about it.

His points

Earth is inhabited with thousands of different animals, birds, insects and sea animals. There are millions of plants too. Human Biengs on Earth differ as well, there are thousands of different religions, cultures and tribes too. Different nations speak different languages, have different traditions and even fight wars because of the differences.

When we're talking about alien planets, there is one thing. Aliens in films always belong to one race. They wear similar clothes and understand each other without any problems. There is one language for all the people on an alien planet. They all have one ruler and act according to his commands. In most cases aliens look like a human being with some small changes in the eyes and skin color only.

Isn't there something off about it? Since space must be bigger and have more variety of things?

Tareq finds it funny that planets are always ruled by one species and have one language too.

On Earth, communication is difficult even among the closest countries, so how would it be possible to understand beings from other planets?

One of Tareq's friends suggested that aliens in stories were shown like that to make things easier. The director and film produces will need to give the artwork to costume designers and remember they're running on a budget.

Tareq disagrees with him. Space must contain even more variety than Earth does. It would be better to see several different species living on one planet, fighting each other for their existence and having several languages that require translators.

All the boys were discussing that topic for a long time. After some time, everybody gave many examples from movies and TV series they saw earlier. The boys agreed that aliens were always shown as one race, because it's cheaper to design one costume and call it a day at the movie set.

But why is that the case in your opinion?

Yes, we’ve often wondered about that too: specifically, the human-like appearance of most film aliens. There are a few welcome exceptions – the jellyfish-like creatures in ‘The Abyss’ , Species 8472 from ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ and, of course... ‘Alien’. I imagine that different living conditions lead to different anatomies, perhaps even different life forms. Books offer much more variety in this respect...

Yes I think the books have more diversity, and I also think at this point, we can only create the alien design we can imagine
