The hidden child
For some time, young Raymond had been watching the house across the street. There was a reason behind his interest in the house, which looked to be just another drug house in the city. Usually, nobody cared about people going in and out. Most likely, the couple living there would spend the evening getting high outside. The woman and her partner would go out around midnight to buy more drugs. Also, after checking the place many times, he found no sign of a child living there.
That night, he managed to enter the house. Everything looked familiar to him. The rooms looked very dirty and smelled bad, then amazinglyz Raymond heard a child's voice coming from the dark.
What are you doing?
He stopped at once and sweat was coming down his forehead. He felt his heart beating fast, but he stayed calm and held a gun. Still, for a split second, he thought about running away. At that moment, he faced a small figure asking in a scared voice, are you Superman?
Raymond did not expect that. He tried to think fast and replied, Uh yeah, yeah kid, I am Superman. Do you know where your mom and dad keep their, you know... Stuff?
He could not even finish the sentence. From the looks of it, the boy was about 4 or 5 years old. Raymond also noticed that the child looked too thin and badly fed. Using his flashlight, he checked the child and saw bruises on almost his whole body. He knew these kinds of injuries. And he was sure he knew the kind of person who could do such harm to a child.
Then the kid suddenly grabbed the man's leg and whispered in a shaky sad low voice, The other children told me that Raymond would not come, but I can see that you are still here.
He didn't wast time, he made a decision. He told the child to run upstairs and hide in the closet at the top of the stairs. Then he turned his attention back and pointed the light to the place. He went to the boy and him to close his eyes and stay still there. After checking his pistol, he went out through the back door and hid himself so he could watch the house from a little distance. He waited for a little time and he called 911.
This may have been the first time in his life that he did not feel bad for calling the police. Later, Raymond waited until two adults stumbled in drunk. After he saw the police officers come near, he left quietly.
Up to that point, he had no idea how to handle such a situation.
